International Student Admissions

International First Time College/Graduate Student

A student who has never been admitted to a degree program at Shaw University or any other post secondary institution of higher education.

The following documents are required for admission consideration:

  1. An official Shaw University application. On-line applications are preferred, but a paper application with an original signature and notary seal will also be accepted.
  2. A non-refundable US $40 application fee. Cashier’s Check or Money Order only. Application fees are not waived.

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) or TOEFL  scores (undergraduate applicants only). Graduate applicants should submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) test scores.

All Certified documentation of exit examinations, high school transcript, official certified final secondary school records, or mark sheets originating from outside of the United States must be sent to World Education Services, Global Credential Evaluators or Educational Credential Evaluators for an official evaluation.

A complete, notarized Affidavit of Support must be completed by the student’s sponsor.

Current monthly bank statements; if the statement is in a foreign currency, the US dollar equivalence and conversion rate must be clearly stated. The balance must meet or exceed the total cost of one year’s university attendance. A letter from the bank is not acceptable.

A complete residential address in the country of origin must be shown on the application. PO Box only or commercial addresses are not acceptable.


International Transfer Students

A student who has completed studies at another college, university, junior college or community college may be considered for transfer admission. Transfer standards are as follows:

  • A minimum of 12 transferrable credits from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Received a grade of C or better in all transferrable classes, particularly English and college level math courses.
  • An earned cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better from the institution you are transferring from.

The following items are required to be considered for admission:

  1. A complete Shaw University International application. Online applications are preferred, but a paper application with an original signature and notary seal will also be accepted.
  2. A non-refundable application fee of US$40 must be submitted. Cashier’s check or money order only. Application fees will not be waived.
  3. Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. If you have a transcript that originates from outside of the United States, an official English translation and evaluation must be completed by the World Education Services ( www.wes.org), Educational Credential Evaluators www.ece.org or Global Credential Evaluators www.gceus.com at the student’s expense.
  4. A complete, notarized Affidavit of Support must be completed by the student’s sponsor. (link for affidavit of support should go here)

  6. An official TOEFL score.

Transfer students from within the United States must do the following:

A student who has attended a post secondary institution within the United States or its territories may be considered for transfer as well. The minimum standards for admission as a transfer student within the United States are:

  • A minimum of 12 transferrable credits from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution.
  • Received a grade of C or better in all transferrable classes, particularly English and college level math courses.
  • An earned cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or better from the institution you are transferring from.

  6. Color copy of your passport photo page and visa page.
  7. Copy of your current I-20.

Please note: Immigration form I-20, needed to obtain a student (F-1) visa, will not be issued until the applicant has, (1) paid the application fee (2) been officially accepted by the University, (3) paid tuition, room, board and fees, (4) Submitted vaccination records and (5) submitted a financial statement and affidavit of support indicating how expenses will be met while in attendance at the university.
