- You may choose to wear a mask at any time; however, wearing a mask indoors will no longer be required, except during visits to the Student Health Center.
- Aside from chronic conditions, if you are experiencing any of the following symptoms: coughing, shortness of breath, fever, fatigue, body aches, headache, loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion, runny nose, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea,
you should mask and take a COVID-19 test as soon as possible.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A STUDENT TESTS POSITIVE FOR COVID-19?
- The results of all off-campus COVID-19 testing must be uploaded to the Testing Portal.
- Students who test positive must upload a copy of their positive test result to the testing portal immediately, as well as report their positive result to the Student Health Center at healthcenter@shawu.edu.
- If you have tested positive, do not come to campus for any reason until you have been cleared by the Student Health Center.
- Students who test positive for COVID-19 will be sent a letter outlining the isolation requirements and the process for returning to campus and to class. Decision regarding COVID-19 policy is based upon CDC recommendations and the advice of local medical experts.
- After the isolation period, the campus doctors will issue a clearance letter. The Student Health Center can also provide clearance letters to third parties at the request of the student.
- The Office of Disability Services will contact the student’s instructors regarding class absences.
- If you have been in close contact with someone who is COVID-19 positive, the CDC recommends
fully vaccinated persons test within 5-7 days after contact.
- All members of the campus community are expected to abide by the COVID-19 Policy. For the health and safety of our campus community, students who are out of compliance with this policy will not be allowed to participate in any on-campus activities
or attend in-person classes.
- The Office of Judicial Affairs reserves the right to suspend or dismiss students for violating the campus’ COVID-19 policy.
- Refusal to isolate or quarantine is also considered a judicial violation and may result in suspension or dismissal.
*For more information regarding free COVID-19 testing sites, please visit Wake County’s No-Cost COVID-19 Testing website.
Note: Regarding Walgreens/CVS Testing
Due to recent changes in federal eligibility criteria, beginning July 1, patients will be required to verify a medical necessity to receive Covid -19 testing at no cost, either through their insurance plan or through a federal program, if uninsured.
Medical necessity includes people who are symptomatic, have a high-risk condition, are pregnant, or have had a recent exposure to a confirmed positive COVID-19 case.
If you don’t meet medical necessity guidelines, payment may be due at the time of your drive-thru COVID-19 testing appointment with Walgreens/CVS. If you are using a WakeMed urgent care location, there may also be a primary care co-pay.
Please check with your insurance plan prior to scheduling your appointment.
