Daniels-Smith Awarded Prestigious Scholarship

Debra Daniels-Smith was awarded the prestigious 2018 Dereck Whittenburg Scholarship. The scholarship, funded by the Dereck Whittenburg Foundation, provides financial assistance to deserving students. The Foundation was established by Dereck Whittenburg, a graduate of NC State University, and his wife Jacqueline, to give back to the community through scholarships for worthy students in higher education.
On winning the scholarship, Daniels-Smith said, "The Dereck Whittenburg Scholarship gives me the opportunity to further my studies and fulfill my dream of spreading the gospel of Jesus through worldwide evangelism."
Daniels-Smith, a Religion
and Philosophy major with a 3.974 GPA, mentors single mothers in her local community. In 2017, she was an entrant in the Elie Wiesel Essay Contest.
She is scheduled to complete requirements for her undergraduate degree in December and plans to go on to graduate studies at Shaw University Divinity School.
